Biography

Jensen was born in 1800 in the Danish village of Gentofte not far from Copenhagen. At the age of 14 he attended the Royal Academy in Copenhagen and learned from Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, one of the most important Danish painters of the time. In 1817 and 1818 he received his first awards, so that a few years later the Danish Crown Prince Frederick became aware of him and made a travel grant possible for him, which sent him to the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Sévres. In 1824 Jensen returned to Copenhagen and a year later became a member of the Royal Academy.

Still life painting

As a specialist in still life, Jensen had developed a rich fund of motifs over the years, which he knew how to vary skillfully. We come across fruit still lifes relatively often in his work; in the case of the flower piece, his spectrum ranges from simple field flowers to highly cultivated ornamental flowers.
