It is a sunny day when a tennis doubles the visitors. The couples dressed in white sports dress pass the balls to each other. The spectators in their best Sunday dress have sat down on the chairs and in the stands and watch the goings-on. We take the same seat and look past the other visitors at the playing field, which is covered with nets. In the background rise the gentle dunes of Westende in Belgium, which is still a popular seaside resort today.
Ernst Oppler painted another version of the tennis court, but a single match can be seen. He then exhibited one of these two pictures at the German Art Association.
