In the watercolour "Sunflowers, red and blue flowers", Nolde's interest lies solely in the incredibly bright and intense colours of the plants: he quickly and easily applies his colours to the paper. He sketches the forms almost sketchily. Very close he leads us to the flowers. The leaf begins to dissolve into a single sea of colours. Like a magnifying glass he looks at the flowers.
