Johann Laurentz Jensen (1800 Gentofte - Kopenhagen 1856) was born in 1800 in the Danish village Gentofte near Copenhagen. In 1814 he became a student at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen and studied with Eckerberg and Fritzsch. In 1817 and 1818, he received his first awards. In 1822 the Danish Crown Prince Frederick became aware of his work and sent him to the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Sevres and provided him with a travel grant.
The works of the Danish artist Johann Laurentz Jensen show the superb talent to depict flowers and fruits in an unique and polished way. Between 1818 and 1856 Jensen showed approximately 250 paintings at several exhibitions in the Copenhagen Salon. Beside wealthy Danish citizens and the Danish nobility, the Royal Family also bought paintings from Jensen.
