The paper work "New York" may have originated on his trip to the United States. Its location is in the middle of the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Chataigner presents the last pillar of the Brooklyn Bridge off Manhattan from below. The characteristic arches of the bridge are still clearly visible, while the upper end is cut. Immediately behind, the buildings of Lower Manhattan line up on the shore. The focus of the scenery, however, is a tugboat, which makes its way on the water at some speed. Chataigner impressively stages the scene with skilful fast brushstrokes, conveying lightness and speed.
