Henri Nouveau was born Heinrich newborn in Kronstadt and received piano and drawing lessons in Budapest as a young man. The high school graduate initially pursued his musical career and in 1921 went to the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin with Egon Petri, Ferruccio Busoni and Paul Juon. This was followed by a two-year study as a master student of Nadja Boulanger at the École Normale der Musique in Paris. At the same time he created surrealistic pictures until he was inspired to abstract works by the painter Hans Mattis-Teutsch. Already in Berlin he was connected to “Sturm” and in 1928 he met Paul Klee at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Made his works in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Sweden. After the Second World War he met Francis Picabia and participated as an abstract artist in the Salon Réalités Nouvelles. Further exhibitions followed in the Galerie Colette Allendy and in the Galerie de France in Paris.
