Information about the artist

"Champion's art had many friends during his lifetime, and his paintings have always quickly found owners. The old audience valued his solid craftsmanship, which he had learned at the Düsseldorf Art Academy by Gebhardt and later at the Art School in Weimar by Theodor Hagen; the young audience felt the strange magic that emanates from the small plates, and the boldness with which tiny colored signals - the blue jacket, red of a flag - are set in the otherwise quiet areas." Anna Klapheck, Rheinische Post 3/15/1961.
