Information about the artist

Alexander Calder learned drawing and sculpture techniques as an autodidact, before he took drawing lessons in 1922 with the British painter Clinton Balmer. In 1926 he attended classes at the Art Students League in New York. His studies were followed by several stays in Paris, where he studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, and Calder's first solo exhibition.
