Gustav Adolf Boenisch was a Silesian landscape painter who graduated at the Royal Building School Breslau in 1823 and later moved to Berlin. In 1825, he met Caspar David Friedrich and Johann Christian Clausen Dahl in Dresden. Since 1826 he studied at the Berlin Academy under Karl Wilhelm Wach, and participated in the Berlin Academy exhibitions. He made several field trips, including Sweden and Norway.
